Caption Plant soil correlation study number 9, Organ Mountain drainage, remnants of a grasslands. At present the vegetation is composed of 50 percent Ephedra trifurea, 30 percent Yucca elata, 10 percent Prosopsis glandulosa and 2 percent Bouteloua eriopoda. The average density is .15 and the forage acre factor is .02. Erosion on the area is slight sheet and wind erosion with occasional shallow gullies. Terrace have been built over the area by Civilian Conservation Corps camp 16 N. The soil has a horizon of slight compaction which acts as a good water reservoir. It also has an open subsoil without the caliche development. The upper 20 inches of the profile are neutral in reaction. Slope is uniformly 5 percent. Original photo number 149.
