Compression Jpeg Compression Keywords Bouteloua eriopoda Yucca elata wind erosion Aristida plant soil correlation
Caption Plant soil correlation study number 2, plants, the vegetation consists of 30 percent Aristida fendlariana, 10 percent Aristida divaricata, 43 percent Yucca elata, 2 percent Bouteloua eriopoda, and 2 percent Sporobolus flexuosus. The average density is .15 and the forage acre factor is .02. The soil is deep sandy loam. It has a horizon of medium compaction between the one and two foot levels below the normal surface and a well expressed zone of lime concentration underlying the horizon of maximum compaction and ranging to an average depth of 5 feet. The substratum consists of fine sand and the caliche layer of an old buried soil occurs at 11 feet. The slope gradient is 2.5 percent, micro-relief is dominated by active wind erosion which ranges from slight to severe. Low hummocks to 8 inches in height and small denudation flats in which the semi-herdpan is exposed to produce a total relief difference of approximately 1 foot. Original photo number 148.
