Caption 20 chains southeast of the northwest corner of T.F.S. enclosure. A single plant of Atriplex canescens, about 10, 4 inch stubs of about .5 inch diameter in the summer of 1935. It started growth under protection of the new T.F.S. fence in August 1935 and in one year attained the following dimensions: 4 feet high and 4 feet in diameter, about 65 cubic feet of volume, fairly dense. A five foot shovel is sticking in the center of the bush. The soil here is sandy clay loam and supports a snakeweed-tobosa type of vegetation. Original Photo Number 333022.
